Google Optimize Alternatives: GA4 Integrations and a Migration Checklist

Google Optimizeとは?廃止後の代替ツールと移行先を解説

Replacing Google Optimize requires more than choosing another editor. You need a dependable way to assign visitors, deliver a variation, measure an accepted outcome, and restore the original experience. Start with the records you still hold, then validate the new implementation before interpreting results.

Google Optimize has shut down: what remains usable

Google’s sunset notice confirms that Optimize and Optimize 360 ended on September 30, 2023. As checked on October 11, 2026, migration cannot depend on starting another Optimize experiment or newly exporting its old results. Look for previously saved files, screenshots, briefs, and reports.

The notice names AB Tasty, Optimizely, and VWO as collaboration examples, not exclusive official successors or a ranked recommendation. Integration APIs are open to other providers. Firebase A/B Testing is a separate product; the Optimize shutdown does not mean every Google-related experiment capability disappeared.

Separate experiment delivery from GA4 measurement

An experimentation platform handles eligibility, assignment, and variation delivery. GA4 analyzes configured activity; installing it does not itself split an arbitrary website into variants. Google’s third-party experimentation guidance explains the integration context. Assign responsibilities explicitly:

Work

Owner

Evidence

Assign and deliver variations

Experiment lead and developer

Eligible URLs, assignment unit, return visits, exclusions

Measure exposure and accepted outcomes

Analyst

Experiment and variant IDs, success signal, consent limits

Evaluate results

Analyst and decision owner

Population, statistical method, stopping rule

Release and roll back

Site owner

Display checks, error checks, restoration procedure

A visual editor can reduce editing work without removing implementation work. Single-page navigation, consent controls, competing tags, and display flicker still need testing.

Compare current GA4 integration requirements

The following questions reflect documentation checked on October 11, 2026. Confirm the product, permissions, contract, and current plan before purchasing. Sending experiment information and importing an audience are different requirements.

Provider

Documented integration context

Questions to resolve

AB Tasty

Campaign and variation information sent to GA4

Who updates the tag? Which custom definitions are needed? How are existing campaigns handled?

Optimizely

GA4 selection during experiment configuration

Does the selected product support the required setup? Who can configure the primary metric?

VWO

Variation information and GA4 audience integration

Is data export or audience import required? Check implementation prerequisites and plan conditions.

Also compare assignment persistence, multiple domains, consent, change history, and rollback. Mark requirements as essential, later, or unnecessary. An unsupported market-share ranking is a poor substitute for testing your own workflow.

Reconstruct an experiment inventory from saved records

Inventory field

Useful record

Hypothesis and audience

Optional-field instructions may discourage eligible applicants.

Original and variation

Saved screenshots and exact wording; mark missing records unknown.

Experiment conditions

Dates, assignment, exclusions, and outcome definition.

Evidence and decision

Counts, denominators, saved analysis, and the reason for the decision.

Relevance today

Check whether the current audience, page, and offer still support the hypothesis.

Do not turn missing conditions into invented facts. A past winner is a historical observation, not a promise for today’s website. Separate reusable learning from hypotheses requiring another test, and keep personal form responses out of the experiment inventory.

A worked form experiment: define metrics before testing

Consider a fictional test that clarifies optional fields. Randomly assign eligible production visitors 50/50, with internal testing and other exclusions defined beforehand. Keep the assignment unit consistent across return visits.

Design choice

Illustrative specification

Primary metric

Eligible exposed users with at least one accepted application divided by eligible exposed users

Deduplication

Fix the user unit and reconcile accepted application IDs.

Observed example

A: 20 of 500, or 4.0%. B: 24 of 500, or 4.8%. Difference: 0.8 percentage points.

Decision rule

Specify sample requirements, minimum duration, stopping conditions, and statistical method before launch.

Guardrails

Check errors, latency, layout, and application quality.

These illustrative counts do not establish a winner or statistical significance. Repeatedly stopping when a favorable result appears can undermine the decision. A GA4 key event must also correspond to the intended accepted action; a button click alone does not establish acceptance.

  • Test arrival, reloads, return visits, and login transitions for stable assignment and IDs.
  • Test permission granted and denied states, recording what remains observable.
  • Reconcile successful submissions, errors, repeated clicks, and retries against accepted IDs.
  • Check production hosts, languages, cross-domain transitions, and internal traffic.
  • Record publication history, a rollback owner, and a usable restoration procedure.

Use the GA4 installation and duplicate-check guide to identify installation paths and Tag Assistant validation steps to inspect individual signals. Coordinate changes so a second installation does not create a new measurement problem.

Investigate discrepancies before declaring a winner

When totals differ, compare populations and units first. Assigned users, exposed users, events, sessions, and accepted applications describe different things. Then check dates, time zones, exclusions, consent, and cross-domain behavior. Use compatible GA4 dimensions and scopes when comparing variations.

Do not remove inconvenient records merely to force equality. Document the discrepancy and postpone the decision when measurement remains unverified. Migration is ready when the hypothesis, delivery, measurement, and decision can be traced together—not simply when a replacement tool is installed.
