GA4でコンバージョン設定する方法|キーイベントの使い方も解説

To measure an outcome in GA4, collect an event representing that outcome and mark it as a key event. Google Ads conversions add a separate advertising measurement and bidding layer. Define the real outcome before changing settings.

For an inquiry, a submit-button click is insufficient. Prefer a signal confirming successful acceptance by the server. For registration or purchase, use the corresponding completed business process so that analytics can be reconciled with operational records.

Events, key events and advertising conversions

Term

Role

Example

Event

A collected occurrence

page_view or generate_lead

Key event

An event designated as important in GA4

Successful inquiry or registration

Google Ads conversion

An outcome used for advertising measurement or bidding

A conversion created from a GA4 key event

CTA clicks and form starts are useful intermediate signals. Do not combine them with completed purchases and call the total acquired customers.

Trigger

The intended form is successfully accepted

Do not trigger

Validation error, request failure or button click alone

Context

Non-personal form type or page category

Deduplication

One intended event per accepted submission; test repeats

Reconciliation

Successful records in the receiving system

An application success signal passed to the tagging implementation is easier to distinguish from an attempted submission. Agree on the event name and conditions with the implementer. If sending a value and currency, document what the lead value means; it should not masquerade as realized sales.

When a thank-you URL is a fallback

If code changes are impractical and a dedicated completion page exists, an event derived from page_view and a precise URL condition can be useful. A broad “URL contains thanks” rule can include other forms, direct visits and reloads.

Constrain the destination and test revisit behavior. This approach may not fit a single-page form that completes without changing the URL. When both browser and server collection send the same outcome, confirm that the destination supports the intended deduplication mechanism.

Mark the event and verify reporting

For an existing event, open Admin → Data display → Events and use the star beside the event. The new-event creation flow also offers key-event designation. Check the selected property and permissions if controls are missing.

Designation is prospective, not a rewrite of historical reporting. Separate receipt checks from standard-report processing. Consult the official instructions for account-specific availability and limits.

Test success and failure paths

Inspect event names and parameters with Tag Assistant or DebugView, then review the selected outcome in processed reporting. Ensure form contents and personal identifiers do not leak into URLs or parameters.

Use outcomes in Google Ads without double-counting

With the required account link, eligible conversions can be created from Analytics key events through Google Ads or supported Analytics interfaces. If an existing Ads tag measures the same purchase, avoid treating both versions as duplicate primary bidding outcomes.

Finally, distinguish event count from the share of sessions with an outcome. Compare the count, session key event rate and receiving-system records when duplication is suspected. Keep the change date and test evidence so future reporting can separate business performance from measurement changes.

Keep marketing reporting consistent

Use consistent metric definitions and reporting periods when reviewing results. See NeX-Ray’s supported integrations and reporting features, or start for free.
