GAIQ and Google Analytics Certification: What to Study and How to Get Certified

GAIQ is the historical name many people still use when searching for a Google Analytics qualification. If you are learning today, start with the current Google Analytics Certification listed by Google. It is a credential for assessing knowledge, not a tool with buttons or settings of its own.
This guide uses official information checked on 11 October 2026. It separates current learning from older Universal Analytics materials and shows how to practise the skills before and after the assessment.
GAIQ versus the current Google Analytics Certification
GAIQ stands for Google Analytics Individual Qualification. Older articles and course recommendations may use that name while describing a previous version of Analytics. Check the product covered rather than assuming every search result prepares you for current GA4 work.
Term or option | What it refers to | What to check |
|---|---|---|
GAIQ | A historical qualification name still used in searches | Whether the material covers UA or GA4 |
Google Analytics Certification | The certification currently listed in Google’s course guide | The official course and assessment instructions |
Japan’s WACA qualification | A separate analytics and marketing education programme | Its scope and local programme conditions |
General data-analysis study | Broader skills such as analysis methods and data preparation | It is not the same credential as Analytics certification |
Use the official Analytics Academy course list as your starting point. Do not transfer exam rules from an old GAIQ guide or a different Google product.
The official GA4 course path: 101, 102, 201 and 301
Google lists four Analytics Academy courses and the certification. Work through the foundations, then use demo or permissioned data to test the concepts instead of only memorising definitions.
Course | Main learning area | A practical check |
|---|---|---|
101 | Getting started with Google Analytics | Identify the property and stream you are using |
102 | Managing data and understanding reports | Explain a metric’s definition and date range |
201 | Deeper analysis | Build a comparison that answers a specific question |
301 | Using other tools and data sources | Explain the conditions and limits of combining data |
For example, learn how User-ID, device ID and modelling contribute to the chosen reporting identity. That helps explain why a measured user is not always one identifiable person. Google documents the current options in Reporting identity.
Account and assessment checks before starting
Sign in to Skillshop with your Google Account and select the correct certification. Confirm your profile name, account and assessment language before you begin.
- Follow the official course list to the certification.
- Check the account and the name you want on your credential.
- Read the assessment’s question count, time limit, pass requirements and interruption rules.
- Allow enough uninterrupted time and use a reliable environment.
- After finishing, verify the result and credential in your own account.
The general Skillshop FAQ for Ads, GMP and GA says Skillshop is available at no cost, attempts are not capped, and a failed assessment requires a 24-hour wait. Pass requirements depend on the assessment. Check the current Analytics assessment itself for its exact rules; a Google Ads time limit is not evidence of an Analytics time limit.
Three practical exercises with GA4 demo data
These are learning exercises, not actual exam questions. Use demo data or a site you are permitted to analyse. Document your filters and what you cannot conclude.
Exercise | Task | Useful answer |
|---|---|---|
User definitions | Compare Total users and Active users for the same period | Explain their definitions, identity and data-quality conditions |
Organic entry | Inspect landing pages using session-level channel conditions | State the period, host, language and Organic Search filter |
Improvement hypothesis | Review an entry page, engagement and a verified next action | Separate observations, possible explanations and the next check |
Consider a fictional report with 100 Total users and 80 Active users. The difference does not automatically mean 20 incorrectly tracked people. Explain the definitions before interpreting it. If Organic Search accounts for 15 landing sessions, keep those separate from all-channel sessions when answering an organic-search question.
Similarly, a short engagement time does not prove poor content. A missing event, a quickly completed task or a mismatch between the entry promise and page content could be relevant. A good practice answer proposes how to distinguish those possibilities.
Verify your credential and recertification date
Google’s badge guidance says Skillshop certifications are valid for one year unless the issued certificate states otherwise. Use the actual certificate to confirm the dates. Check the applicable recertification instructions and badge visibility rather than assuming a credential is public or permanent.
Credential field | What to record |
|---|---|
Name | The exact certification name shown on the certificate |
Issuer | The issuer displayed on the credential |
Earned date | Your real certification date |
Expiry date | The date shown on the issued certificate |
Verification link | A link shared after reviewing visibility and personal information |
This is a record template, not evidence that a qualification has been earned. On a CV, copy the current credential’s wording and real dates rather than automatically using an older name. See Google’s digital badge guidance.
What certification proves and what practical work still requires
Certification is one indicator of learning. It does not verify your organisation’s tag setup, deduplication or business results. A live implementation still needs checks for event success conditions, production hosts, consent and authenticated or cross-domain journeys.
To turn learning into practical evidence, create one analysis that documents the question, conditions, calculation, limitations and next action. Compare training options according to the work you want to do: product knowledge, broader business analysis or implementation skills. Avoid treating any certificate as a guarantee of employment, revenue or a correct measurement system.
