GA4 Reporting in Looker Studio, Now Data Studio: A Practical Guide

Looker Studio(旧Google Data Studio)でGA4レポートを作る方法

Connect a GA4 property through the Google Analytics connector, define the reporting period and metrics, and build a focused one-page report. Begin with the decisions the audience needs to make rather than a large collection of charts.

Looker Studio returned to the name Data Studio in April 2026. This guide uses the current name while retaining the familiar term for readers. It should not be confused with the separate Looker product.

Define a one-page report

For this fictional weekly lead-generation review, decide the property, stream scope, success event, audience and reporting cadence first.

Connect and select fields

Create a data source, choose the Google Analytics connector, confirm access and select the intended account and GA4 property. Review field types and descriptions before adding the source to a report. Check that you have not selected a similarly named test property.

The connector uses supported GA4 Data API fields. It does not reproduce every exploration, segment or comparison from the GA4 interface.

Set a consistent period

Add a date-range control and ensure cards and tables use the same period. Decide whether to include an incomplete current day and how comparisons are aligned. Completed periods are often easier to explain in a recurring review.

Name the selected key event explicitly. Do not label the total of all key events “inquiries.” Check that filters do not unintentionally change the rate denominator.

Do not average percentages

In this fictional example, source A has five successful sessions out of ten, while B has nine out of ninety.

B

90

14

100

14%

The total is 14%, not the simple average of 30%. Key-event occurrences divided by sessions are also different from the share of sessions containing an outcome.

Use an appropriate built-in metric when possible. Validate calculated fields and blends against a small known example. API compatibility can limit how ratio metrics are reaggregated.

Build and reconcile the tables

Use session acquisition dimensions for the channel table and Landing page for the entry table. Do not mix first-user acquisition with session acquisition unnoticed.

When comparing GA4 and the report, align period, filters, timezone, fields and aggregation. If complex date dimensions or joins inflate counts, simplify to an ordinary date and table before diagnosing further.

Review freshness and access

Connected data has caching and freshness settings, while GA4 also requires processing time. Opening a report does not guarantee a live, fully processed value. Document freshness and whether the reporting period is complete.

Owner’s credentials can expose report data to viewers who do not independently have access to the underlying dataset. Viewer’s credentials require the viewer’s own access. Choose sharing recipients and credential mode deliberately rather than making the report public by default.

GA4 connector requests are subject to Data API quotas. For errors, inspect permissions, compatible fields, date ranges, chart count and query complexity. Repeated refreshes are not a substitute for diagnosis.

A connection is not an indefinite archive

An ordinary data-source connection does not permanently copy all GA4 data. Aggregated reports, event-level retention, explorations, extracts and warehouse storage have different conditions.

If long-term detailed analysis is needed, define granularity, retention, cost and access separately. Before handover, reconcile representative values with GA4, test another authorized viewer, change periods and check definitions. Assign an owner for ongoing maintenance.

Keep marketing reporting consistent

Use consistent metric definitions and reporting periods when reviewing results. See NeX-Ray’s supported integrations and reporting features, or start for free.
